Laguiole cutlery - what is the difference?

We get lots of people asking us why is there such a vast price difference in Laguiole cutlery available on the market, hopefully, this will help those who are wondering.....

Laguiole cutlery was first produced in 1829 in the small town of Laguiole in the Aveyron region of South France, the area is also home to Roquefort, of course known for Roquefort cheese.                         The area is famous for its specialised craftsmen whose skills have been passed down from generation to generation.  Laguiole is not a brand as such, more the symbol of an area known for classic design, tradition and fine craftmanship.  Dubost Colas Pradel was founded in 1920 by Mr Pierre Dubost, a cutler's son and maker of the famous Laguiole knives. Production started in a small workshop and grew thanks to the founder's son Mr Jean Dubost whose name signs the flatware and kitchen knives line.  The cutlery, made from high grade stainless steel, is stamped, ground and then polished with over 25 manual production stages.  Quality is an integral part of production to provide consumers with the assurance of long lasting use.  There has, unfortunately in recent times been many imitations come to the market, coming from China,India and even poor quality from France, at first glance, these may look the same, but they will not stand the test of time, many have glued handles and will surely fall apart in no time at all.

So, when buying Laguiole, make sure you do your research.  We sell the Jean Dubost as we feel it represents the best quality and value for money on the market.

These are some of the things to look for:

*crafted by hand in Laguiole by Dubost Colas Pradel, France.                                                  * Handle made from coloured resin                        * 23cm stainless steel (18.10) steak knife blades made from top quality stainless steel 1.5 gauge.       *features the trademark Laguiole bee on the handle   *sets presented in wooden storage boxes        *dishwasher safe                                 *includes certificate of authenticity

We have been selling this cutlery for 4 years now and we have never been anything but thrilled with it.
